Lowe's grant will fund new playground

31 December 2010

Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation has awarded a $9,500 grant to the Cornelius PARC Department to build a playground at the future Westmoreland Athletic Complex

The grant was recommended by the company's 10-member Hometown Grants Advisory Committee, which has representatives from education, recreation and business in Lake Norman-area communities

The plan is to use the money to install a safety surface and kinetic playground equipment. That kind of equipment promotes physical fitness by requiring children to exert mental and physical energy

Summer Art

The PARC Department and the Community Arts Project invite you to view the work of talented summer camp students at the "Student Creates Exhibit." These works in various media will be on display at the Cornelius Arts Center until Aug. 27. The center is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m.-noon Fridays

At a reception 6-8 p.m. Friday, you can meet the student artists and learn about techniques or future workshops

Pilates

Registration has started for a Pilates class. Participants should experience improvement in posture and overall toning

Classes will be 6:30-7:30 p.m. Mondays Aug. 2-Sept. 27 at the Bailey Road Recreation Center. Certified instructor Danielle Wasser will teach. Cornelius residents pay $80; others pay $90. Also bring $8 cash on the first night for an exercise ball, and bring your own towel and mat
